No sign-up screen comes first, just the grid of countries. Click any of them. Without a subscription that click opens Buy Bebra VPN, where you can start the trial or choose a plan. With one, it connects straight away.
During installation the package script gives the program two kernel capabilities, cap_net_admin and cap_dac_override. That’s enough for Bebra VPN to bring up the tunnel and change routes itself, so it never has to run as root. It creates the connection through NetworkManager, which is why the package depends on it. Desktop Ubuntu has it already.
There’s no separate system service with the package. Only the AppImage installs one, the first time it connects.
When a new version is out, Bebra VPN shows an Update available banner. Delete the old Bebra.deb from your downloads folder, download the new one and run the same install command. Removal is one command too.
sudo apt remove bebra-client
If Bebra VPN is running at that moment, the package closes it and its tunnel before removal.

That’s not an error. apt tries to read the file as its helper user _apt, which has no access to your home folder. The package installs as usual.
The command most likely installed the old file again. If the previous Bebra.deb was still in your downloads folder, the browser saved the new one under a name like Bebra(1).deb. Delete the old file, rename the new one to Bebra.deb and run the command again.
Yes, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is supported. It uses the same package as 22.04 and 24.04.
Yes, the AppImage linked under the button. It needs FUSE 2, which is the libfuse2 package on Ubuntu 22.04 and libfuse2t64 on 24.04 and later. Allow the file to run with chmod +x Bebra.AppImage and open it. On the first connection it asks for your password to install its service.
